The Sanskrit word Karana means "doing" or "action."
They are officially documented in the Natya Shastra (the ancient Indian treatise on performing arts written by Sage Bharata).
According to the Natya Shastra, a Karana is formed by the simultaneous combination of three elements:
1. Nritta Hasta: Specific hand gestures.
2. Chari: Movements of the lower body and legs.
3. Sthana: The basic standing posture or torso position.
.There are exactly 108 Karanas described in the Natya Shastra.
They are not static poses; they are dynamic, fluid movements that connect one posture to another.
Names of the first 5 Karanas:
Talapushpaputam
Vartitam
Valitoorukam
Apaviddham
Samanakam
